C1 Advanced courses

​​What is C1 Advanced?
The C1 Advanced exam is a qualification at the advanced level of English, level C1 on the CEFR scale. This exam is recognised by many employers, universities, organisations and governments around the world. Preparing for this exam helps people to communicate effectively at an advanced level in professional and academic situations. Achieving a C1 Advanced certificate shows that an individual has a very advanced English level. The exam has four parts: Reading and Use of English, Writing, Listening, and Speaking.


Who is C1 Advanced for?
The C1 Advanced exam is a good choice for people who need an internationally-recognised, lifelong qualification which shows they have an advanced level of English. This exam is often taken by people who are preparing to study an academic course at university, or who need to communicate at an advanced level at work. Preparing for this exam helps give people the confidence needed to take part in meetings and discussions in academic and workplace contexts. The C1 Advanced exam is also good preparation for English study at the highest CEFR level, and the C2 Proficiency qualification. Our C1 Advanced preparation courses are suitable for people with a minimum age of 16 and an advanced (C1) level of English.

Course summary
Our C1 Advanced preparation courses help you to get the best possible score in the exam. Engaging training allows you to improve your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. You will also develop your exam technique and learn more about the exam’s format, texts, topics, different types of task and assessment criteria. Throughout your course you will have many opportunities to practise the different parts of the C1 Advanced exam and will receive detailed feedback on your progress from your trainer.

Course outline
Your course aims to deliver measurable results as quickly as possible. Your trainer will talk to you about why you are preparing for the C1 Advanced exam, and learn more about your English learning background. You will then have the opportunity to take a practice exam. This will give you and your trainer a clear idea of what your English level is at the start of the course, and what you need to do to improve it. 

In addition to developing your language skills the course will familiarise you with all the different aspects of the C1 Advanced exam, and give you practice in completing the different task types.

Your trainer will provide you with homework – which will involve practising different parts of the C1 Advanced exam with past exam papers. You will be given detailed feedback on your spoken and written English, which will help you eliminate mistakes. Your trainer will also analyse your performance in the Reading and Use of English, and Listening practice exams, in order to identify areas where you can improve.

•    contribute to conversations by expressing ideas and opinions, agreeing and disagreeing, evaluating, and negotiating

•    write letters, emails, reports, reviews, and proposals
•    learn techniques such as predicting content, identifying context, and becoming an active listener
•    carry out comprehension tasks such as identifying speakers’ attitudes, opinions, and main points
•    identify detail, attitude, opinion, purpose, and tone in a variety of text types
•    use a wider range of vocabulary and develop an awareness of idioms and collocations
•    develop an understanding of the structures used in English and learn to use them correctly and appropriately
•    improve your exam technique
•    develop a deeper understanding of different aspects of the C1 Advanced exam
•    practise completing tasks in the time allocated
